Clinton, Trump hold commanding leads in Michigan: polls News

WASHINGTON – New polls out Sunday show Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump both have commanding leads in Michigan – the next big delegate prize in the presidential race.
On the Republican side, Trump has 41 percent support from likely primary voters followed by Texas Sen. Ted Cruz with 22 percent, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio with 17 percent and Ohio Gov. John Kasich with 13 percent, according to NBC/Wall Street Journal/Marist poll.
Democratic front-runner Clinton leads Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, 57 percent to 40 percent.
A separate CBS News/YouGov battleground tracker poll shows Clinton beating Sanders 55-44 percent. Clinton has been doing outreach to Flint and African American voters in Detroit and spent Sunday morning talking to black churches in Detroit with her message of making America whole.
Trump is ahead in Michigan 39 percent to Cruz’s 24 percent with Rubio and Kasich trailing at 16 percent and 15 percent respectively, the CBS poll also found.
The fourth place showing could be an early warning sign for Kasich, governor of neighboring state who has staked his presidential bid on doing well in the north.
“Now we are closing fast in Michigan,” Kasich told “This Week” Sunday in brushing off the new poll numbers. “We’re going to have a good result out of Michigan because you see, it’s like March Madness. Now we have now moved to the Midwest. We’ve now moved more to my territory. I will win Ohio. And it’ll be a whole new ballgame.”
Michigan voters head to the polls Tuesday where 147 delegates are at stake for Democrats and 59 up for grabs in the GOP race.
