Will the best country in the world, please stand up?

No United States, it’s not you.

A new survey by U.S. News and World Report says that despite the refugee crisis and Europe's financial mess, Germany is the greatest place on Earth. Even America’s northern neighbor, Canada, is better than the U.S., the report finds.

The magazine’s first-ever Best Countries rankings sampled the perceptions of more than 16,000 people in four global regions, asking them to assign scores to countries based on specific attributes.

The categories included adventure, citizenship, entrepreneurship, heritage, influence, potential growth, open for business, power and quality of life. The survey asked people what their views were on the best country to be a woman, start a career and raise a family, among other questions, U.S. News and World Report said.

Germany came out as the winner, followed by Canada, the United Kingdom, the United States, Sweden, Australia, Japan, France, and the Netherlands. Denmark rounded out the top 10.
